Surveillances

Importance of Geological Monitoring for Risk Assessment

Our team carries out rigorous monitoring and control tests to ensure the earthworks and foundations meet the required standards:

  • Ram Soundings (DPL, DPM, DPH) Carried out in accordance with DIN EN ISO 22476-2 to assess the storage density
  • Dynamic Plate Compression Tests : Performed according to TP-BF StB Part 8.3 to measure compaction in dynamic conditions
  • Static Plate Compression Tests : Providing meaningful insights into the compaction and stability of earthworks to guarantee the quality of foundations

Our experts perform vertical inclinometer measurements that are crucial for assessing ground movement and ensuring long-term structural stability:

  • Horizontal Movement Monitoring : These measurements detect horizontal shifts below the surface at various depth intervals
  • Subsoil Monitoring : Used to monitor any potential movements in the soil, particularly in areas prone to landslides or structural settlements
  • Preservation of Evidence : Important for documenting ground movements in the event of building or land instability

We use several methods to accurately determine soil compaction, ensuring that the foundation is solid and stable:

Direct Methods:

  • Density Determinations according to DIN 18125
  • Piercing cylinder method: : For precise sample extraction and compaction measurement
  • Densitometer/Balloon Method Method for determining density and degree of compaction
  • Sand Replacement Process : Measures the soil's compaction level by comparing the volume of sand displaced by a sample
  • Bentonite Replacement Process : An alternative method for compaction assessment using bentonite clay as a replacement material
  • Proctor tests according to DIN 18127: : According to DIN 18127, we conduct Proctor tests with various pot sizes (100 mm, 150 mm, 250 mm) to determine soil compaction in laboratory conditions

Surveillances

Surveillance involves the systematic monitoring of environmental conditions and geological changes, providing essential data for early detection of risks and long-term site management.

Professional earthworks and foundations are essential for the stability and safety of construction projects. When performed improperly, they present significant risks of damage.

ICP Engineers GmbH supports construction projects with comprehensive consulting and monitoring services - from the planning phase through to realisation. We focus on quality assurance measures, in particular compaction control in earthworks and road construction. We use direct and indirect measurement methods to ensure compliance with technical standards and best practice.

Additional Considerations for Surveillance in Earthworks

The selection of appropriate surveillance methods for earthworks is guided by several key principles to ensure safety and efficiency:

  • Providing meaningful insights into the compaction and stability of earthworks to guarantee the quality of foundations
  • Ensuring cost-effectiveness by choosing the most efficient testing methods that deliver reliable results without exceeding budgets
  • Timely and precise execution to maintain construction schedules and prevent unnecessary delays
  • Maintaining quality and environmental sensitivity by conducting tests that prevent damage to the surrounding area and ensure structural integrity

With these principles, ICP Ingenieure GmbH ensures that every monitoring measure in earthworks makes a measurable contribution to project safety and sustainability.
